Participants at the recent Father-daughter camp at Pioneers

A reflection from one of our staff members at QCCC Tamborine on why we do what we do.

Hi everyone

Just have to share something quickly on the weekend….it impacted me big time! As you know, the pressure was on for us to get the Pioneers site finished, and we were completely worn out by Friday night leading into Saturday.

My Mum and her friend came to visit for Sunday Lunch and so I took them for a stroll around the camps on the Sunday morning, with the 3 groups on site.  We got to Pioneers and got chatting with Andrew and Darren from Fathering Adventures, in the hall.  I went outside to control our dog, who was with us, and a little girl from the Fathering Adventures camp, came to us to pat him. Introducing Pioneers @ Tamborine

Sunset at QCCC Pioneers

Extensive renovations on QCCC Tamborine’s newest facility are close to completion.  The QCCC Tamborine Pioneers campsite is an exciting new option for niche groups to consider on Tamborine Mountain.

QCCC Pioneers has several points of difference.  Firstly the rooms are significantly smaller than the average campsite, with the campsite containing 16 modern rooms sleeping only three people in each room (for a total capacity of 48 people).  This is likely to prove popular for adult groups who want fewer people to a room and also has significant potential for couples’ retreats.

Pioneers has also been established to be a site to cater to groups on a budget.  All QCCC sites are fully catered, but basic catering options will be available at QCCC Pioneers with fully-catered weekend packages starting at $84 per person for a two night, catered getaway.

Adventerous Fathering

The first Fathering Adventure in South East Queensland

This last weekend (21-23 January 2011) QCCC Tamborine was the venue for a pilot program of the first Fathering Adventures weekend in South East Queensland.

Fathering Adventures’, founded by Darren Lewis in July 2008, is an adventure-based initiative devoted to turning the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers.

The Fathering Adventure Weekend is for boys aged between 7 and 13 years, and their Dad, or significant male other.  The first South East Queensland Fathering Adventure event was fully booked, attended by twelve fathers and their sons drawn from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Dalby and Sydney.

Throughout the weekend, Dads were given coaching on what it means to be an “intentional” Dad, finishing the weekend armed with a quiver of tools designed to ensure their son would know that he is a “beloved son”. Encouraged to “have fun” throughout the program, the adventure weekend was specifically geared around crating a memorable experience for fathers and sons, empowering them to spend time with each other, one on one, to put into practice the things being taught.
